SPRING EXEMPLIFICATION: Most of the planning for the April 18th exemplification is in place.  The Nicollet Assembly exemplification team has done a great job with the facilities, meal menus and events.  The exemplification will be dignified and fun.  Most of its success is in your hands.  We need candidates to be exemplified and membership and ladies to attend for a successful exemplification.  Please encourage the Candidates to bring their Lady to the exemplification and to attend the Ladies luncheon.  A great program has been planned for them and they will be recognized and felt welcome.   I know times are tough but with a little planning we can enjoy each other’s company while we welcome the new Sir Knights and their ladies.  Exemplification packets have been mailed to all Faithful Navigators and Comptrollers. Registration forms are also available on the Minnesota Knights of Columbus web-site.  www.mnknights.org   NOW is the time to make your room reservations at The Northland Inn.  Telephone 763-536-8300, tell the receptionist you are with the Knights of Columbus and want to make a room reservation.  As of January 15th fifty percent of the hotel rooms were already reserved.  Faithful Navigators please advises your assemblies accordingly.   We have received a superb discount on the room rate at $99 a night plus tax.  Comparable lodging in the area will exceed $150. SK’s should not delay in making their reservations.

THE US ARMY 34TH INFANTRY DIVISION (the Red Bulls) will depart for Iraq in February.  A Mass in their honor was held January 10th at St. Joseph’s Church in Rosemount. The church overflowed with attendants.  The Most Rev. John C. Nienstedt, STD was the celebrant and was assisted by several priests and deacons.  Sixty-nine Sir Knights provided an Honor Guard for the liturgy. They represented assemblies from Dakota County; Rochester; St. Paul - Ravoux; Minneapolis - Nicollet; Bloomington; and Buffalo.  Following Mass Sir Knights mingled with the troops and families of the 34th over refreshments and exchanged greetings of good will and asked and answered many questions.  It was a wonderful Holy Patriotic experience. The District Master extends his thanks and appreciation to all who participated.

COLOR CORPS HONOR GUARDS:   Faithful Navigators have received the October 4, 2008 edition of the Color Corps Drill Manual.  Please share it with your Color Corps Commander (CCC). You may have to order additional copies of the manual. You will note many changes from what is being done in the Minnesota District.  I have not had the opportunity to study the entire manual but have noted changes pertaining to: the Official Dress; Lapel Pins; the wearing of Past and Current Officer’s Jewels (with and without Color Corps Regalia); and the reception of the Eucharist. Faithful Navigators the implementation of these changes within your respective assemblies is not going to be easy.  You will receive resistance from within the ranks as some do not like change and it will take work to train the Color Corps in new methods, but I have every confidence in your leadership and you have my support.

FRATERNAL SURVEY FORM NO. 1728:  Faithful Comptrollers the completed form 1728 for the calendar year ending December 31, 2008 should be mailed to the Supreme Council Department of Fraternal Services, the Vice Supreme Master and the District Master by January 31, 2009.  If by chance you don’t have the mailing addresses please let me know and I will get them for you. The following  assemblies have already submitted the report: #526; 529; 532; 536; 537; 544; 549: 551; 552; and #2390.  Thank you for your promptness.

DOME FUND:  Many of the assemblies in the District have paid the requested contribution of $3 a member to the Dome Fund.  Some assemblies are still working on it.  Thanks to all of you that have given your support.  A few assemblies have paid $1,000 or more and have inquired about the plaque promised by the Supreme Master. I may be wrong but I think the plaques will be awarded after the campaign is completed June 30, 2009.  This gives ample time for some assemblies in the District to catch up on their participation.  I’m sure there will be some publicity when the drive is over.

MEMBERSHIP:   Sir Knights membership is the greatest asset to any assembly.  Faithful Comptrollers have recently received their assembly updated membership roster effective January 1, 2009. Since becoming District Master of Minnesota in 2006 I have kept a spread sheet on the membership activity of each assembly in the district.  Some assemblies have attained excellent growth and others continue to decline.  I challenge each FN to look at your assembly trend over the past three years. If your assembly is in a declining mode you have work to do.  Establish recruiting teams and look at the membership growth in the councils within your assembly jurisdiction. If your jurisdiction has striving councils they have active members.  You want visitations to these councils to be a priority for solicitation of third degree members.  Fourth Degree members within these councils should support your efforts and bring their Third Degree buddies to Fourth Degree recruitment meeting. We have one assembly in the district that just about doubled its membership in the past year and another that increased membership by over 50%.  So it can be done but it takes some work. God bless you in your efforts.

LIFE’S RULES:

1.        I don’t approve of political jokes.  I’ve seen too many of them get elected and re-elected.

2.        Everyday I beat my own previous record for the number of consecutive days I’ve stayed alive.

Again my best wishes to you and your family for a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year. May God bless you in your efforts to build His kingdom and may he continue to bless America.
