CROW WING CHAPEL:  The District Master and District Marshal and their ladies participated in the Father Pierz Anniversary Celebration of the Eucharist at Crow Wing State Park July 20th.  About 28 Sir Knights participated in the honor guard under the direction of Guard Commander John Wachlarowicz.  PFN Mark Glatzel and his Crow Wing Chapel committee are to be commended for the efforts put forth in this worthwhile summer commitment.  PFN Bernie Gallus was on hand taking photos of the event.  Maybe a few will be made available for sharing within the Minnesota District through the power of the internet.  Following the celebration cold refreshments were furnished by the District Master and they seemed to hit the spot.  We’re looking forward to next year.

KC DAY AT THE DOME is Sunday August 17th.  The Minnesota Twins vs. Seattle mariners.  Game time is 1:10 p.m. There will be a pre-game Mass in the Picnic Tent (located outside Gate D) at 10:00 a.m.  Assembly for the mass honor guard is 9:30 a.m.  The Fourth Degree Color Guard will present the colors at the singing of the Star Spangled Banner before the game.  This should be an enjoyable day and a day to promote Patriotism and the Knights of Columbus.  I hope to see you and your family at the game.

WILLMAR EXEMPLIFICATION:  I trust the Minnesota District Assemblies are excited about the up coming exemplification October 25th.  Information and registration packets should be in the mail to you by mid August.  I realize many of your assemblies don’t meet during the summer but now is the time to give the exemplification some thought.  The host exemplification committee is still working on details for the Friday night event, and the “joy of giving’ luncheon.  The registration fee for a Sir Knight is $5. The Saturday night banquet will feature an 8 oz Smoked Pork Chop, baked potato, corn, bread & butter and house salad at a cost of $27. The candidate registration fee is $70 which includes one banquet ticket.  A block of 70 rooms have been reserved at the Holiday Inn (King beds) for Friday and Saturday nights at a cost of $79.99 (Standard rate $99 - $130) An additional 20 rooms have been reserved at the Comfort Inn (King or 2 Queens) for $79.99 (Standard rate $89.99 to $150.) and additional 20 rooms reserved at the Days Inn (Queen or 2 Doubles) at a cost of $55.99 (Standard rate $63.99 - $84) plus tax on all rooms.  For room reservations telephone 320-235-6060 which is the main desk at the Holiday Inn. Tell them you are with the Knights of Columbus.  Our hotel representative is Debbie Becker, Director of Sales.  Her telephone number is 320-235-3312, Ext. 306.  Room reservations must be received by 09/24/2008.  After this date reservations will be accepted on a space and rate available basis only.

FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR GOALS:  The Supreme Secretary established an increase in membership goal of 10% for each assembly.  Faithful Navigators due the math and set your goal accordingly.  I suggest an assembly liaison for each council.  The liaison member should have the knowledge of the Fourth Degree and be able to discuss the activities of the assembly and report back to the assembly the activities of the council within the assembly’s jurisdiction.  Third Degree members should be asked time and again to consider joining the Fourth Degree.  New membership is the life of the assembly.  Take a look at your assembly’s membership performance and make your quota a priority.

NEW ASSEMBLIES:  Sir Knights do you know of a City, Parish, or Community that warrants a new assembly.  Is you assembly too large to manage; in membership or square miles?  Do you have any ideas or suggestions?  You have my email address.  Please respond.

PROVINCIAL MEETING:  The Provincial Meeting for the Marquette Province is October 4, 2008 in Oshkosh, WI.  If I am reappointed District Master I will attend if not my replacement will.  This is always an informative meeting conducted by the Vice Supreme Master. Does your assembly have topics for discussion that I should bring to the meeting?  Your input is always welcome.

COLOR GUARDS FOR MAJOR LEAGUE SPORTS:  As aforementioned the Fourth Degree will present the colors at the August 17th Minnesota Twins baseball game.  You might be interested in knowing that the KC Supreme Office was notified by a representative of the Minnesota Twins requesting contact personnel to schedule additional Color Guards for 15 additional Twins games played in June through September.  Due to the timing of the request we could commit to only ten games.  I have had the privilege to participate in two of these Color Guards.  The Color Guard Commander does an excellent job with the Corps and they are very well received by the Twins organization and fans.  At one game I attended there were over 38,000 in attendance.  Wow, what exposure for the Knights of Columbus.

A SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER asked her children as they were on the way to church service, “And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?  One bright little girl replied, “Because people are sleeping”.

REMEMBER:  If life deals you lemons, make lemonade.  If life deals you tomatoes, make Bloody Marys.

LADY JAN AND I have enjoyed meeting and visiting with you while participating in many of your officer installations and we look forward to those still on the agenda.  Enjoy the summer while you make your plans for the October exemplification.

Please share this information with your assembly membership.  This “brief” may be copied or forwarded as deemed appropriate.  May God Bless you in your service to build His Kingdom and May God continue to Bless America!
